Privacy Policy

The Naturalist Collection

Last updated: 31st May 2026

The Naturalist Collection ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to our website and the services we offer through it.

For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), the data controller is Lydia, trading as The Naturalist Collection. You can contact us at any time at hello@thenaturalistcollection.co.uk.

The information we collect

Depending on how you use our site, we may collect:

  • Contact details — your name and email address when you sign up to our newsletter or use our contact form.

  • Order information — your name, email, billing details and delivery address when you buy a product. Payment card details are handled directly by our payment providers and are not stored by us.

  • Communications — any message you send us through the contact form or by email.

  • Technical and usage data — information collected automatically when you browse, such as your IP address, device and browser type, and how you use our pages. This is gathered through cookies and analytics (see Cookies below).

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • send you our newsletter and updates, where you have asked to receive them;

  • process and fulfil your orders, including printing and posting items to you;

  • respond to your enquiries;

  • run and improve our website and understand how it is used;

  • meet our legal and accounting obligations.

Our legal bases

We rely on the following legal bases under the UK GDPR:

  • Consent — for sending you marketing emails and for non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.

  • Contract — to process and deliver orders you have placed.

  • Legal obligation — to keep records required by tax and accounting law.

  • Legitimate interests — to operate, secure and improve our website, in a way that does not override your rights.

Sharing your information

We never sell your personal information. We share it only with the trusted services that help us run the business, including:

  • Squarespace — our website host and online store platform;

  • Kit (formerly ConvertKit) — our email newsletter provider;

  • Eventbrite — for booking and managing online talks;

  • our payment providers (such as Stripe and PayPal) — to process payments securely;

  • analytics providers (such as Google Analytics) — to understand site usage;

  • delivery and printing services — to fulfil and post physical orders.

These providers process your data on our behalf under their own privacy terms. Some may process data outside the UK; where they do, appropriate safeguards are in place.

How long we keep your information

We keep your information only for as long as needed:

  • newsletter details — until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them;

  • order records — for as long as required by tax and accounting law (usually six years);

  • enquiries — for a reasonable period after we've dealt with them.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;

  • ask us to correct anything inaccurate;

  • ask us to delete your information;

  • object to or restrict how we use it;

  • withdraw consent at any time;

  • request a copy of your data in a portable format.

To exercise any of these, email us at hello@thenaturalistcollection.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you are unhappy with how we have handled your data.

Cookies

Our website uses cookies — small files stored on your device — to make the site work, remember your preferences, and help us understand how it is used through analytics. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as well if you do. Where required, we will ask for your consent to non-essential cookies before setting them.

Children's privacy

Our website and services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date.
