What is a Behaviour Watch Sheet?
Each sheet in this series is a two-page printable designed to help you observe and record animal behaviour the way a field scientist would — using an ethogram.
An ethogram is a catalogue of an animal's distinct, repeatable behaviours. Rather than scribbling vague notes, you work from a defined set of categories specific to the animal you're watching. Every sheet in this series has been built around the behaviours most relevant to that animal group — the ethogram for mammals looks quite different to the one for birds, because the behaviours worth recording are different too.
What's included
Page 1 — Ethogram reference sheet: your behavioural categories with descriptions and examples, plus four tips for getting the most from your observation session.
Page 2 — Recording sheet: observation details (species, date, time, weather, temperature), a behaviour record table with tally and notes columns, a field sketch box, and space for additional observations.
The series
This listing covers one animal group. The full Behaviour Watch Series includes:
Garden Mammals
Garden Birds
Amphibians
Insects
The complete series bundle is also available in my shop.
Prefer a printed copy?
If you'd rather not print at home, I also offer these sheets printed on 200gsm card and posted to you — available as a standard pack (1 ethogram + 15 recording sheets) or a large pack (1 ethogram + 30 recording sheets). Find the printed version in my shop.
About these sheets
These sheets were developed by a wildlife scientist with an MSc in Global Wildlife Health and Conservation. The ethogram categories are grounded in real behavioural science — accessible enough for a complete beginner, rigorous enough to produce records you can actually compare over time.

Format: PDF
Size: A4 (prints at A5 by selecting "fit to page")
